The v4 Pellet extruder allows you to print pellets, which is the raw material with which the filaments for 3D printer are created. This version is shorter, compact and powerful than its predecessors.
What is v4 Pellet Extruder?
It is an extruder that allows the user to print pellets. The new v4 pellet Extruder is a redesigned head, more powerful and compact than its previous versions.
It allows to use granulated plastic as a consumable of the 3D printer.
This raises the possibilities of printing, being able to mix different colors, types of thermoplastics, or even pigments, depending on the needs of the piece.
In addition, it allows the use of recycled plastics as raw material.
What is pellet?
The pellet is the name that receives the raw material with which the filaments for 3D printing are made. It is granulated thermoplastic.
What kind of pellet can I use?
You can use materials such as PLA, ABS, PET, PP …
Can you print 3D Print remains?
The v4 Pellet extruder allows you to print traces of prints made with filaments such as filament PLA, ABS, PETG, flexible filament, etc … But it also allows the printing of ultra flexible material, that is, with shore hardness less than 80. This Ultra flexible type of materials are quite complicated to print with other extruders, however, the v4 pellet extruder allows printing.
Remember that the remains of impressions that you use as raw material must be homogeneous.
Capabilities of v4 Pellet Extruder
Allows the printing of virtually any meltable material, with melting temperatures from 30ºC to 300ºC.
You can also print in different formats, that is, filament, pellet or thermoplastic granules, and laminating.
All this with a diameter or thickness that goes from 0.5mm to 5mm.
On the other hand, the print quality ranges from 0.2mm to 2mm, also allows retractions.
The nozzle is made of stainless steel, which makes the v4 pellet extruder an all-terrain vehicle when extruding materials, allowing even the printing of materials that are abrasive for brass nozzles.
Nozzle
The default nozzle is 0.8mm, compatible with E3D v6 or similar. It can be customized as needed.
Assembly
Unlike previous models, v4 Pellet Extruder comes fully assembled, it is only necessary to place the high flow fan to dissipate heat from the extruder, the layer fan, and the heater.
The pellet extruder incorporates a plate compatible with profiles and linear guides for proper installation.
How do I configure it?
It is important to maintain the extrusion conditions of the material, that is, at the time of extrusion, the same material must be made at the same time, and must have a uniform size.
If this is true, then once configured everything will be fine.
Configuration in Marlin
Steps per unit = 250*
* DRV8825, micro steps 1/32,PLa grain size 5 mm
/**
* Default Axis Steps Per Unit (steps/mm)
* Override with M92
* X, Y, Z, E0 [, E1[, E2[, E3[, E4]]]]
*/
#define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT { 80, 80, 4000, 250 }
It can be changed via EEPROM or LCD
Should I configure my Slicer?
You must configure your slicer to print with the v4 Pellet Extruder, so that the diameter of the filament is 1.75 mm, and the extrusion multiplier (flow) is 1 (or alternatively 1.10).
If you do not change the flow (extrusion multiplier) in the slicer, you can change it through the LCD screen of your 3D printer.
And how do I configure the PID?
You can enter the M303 command in Repetier or Pronterface, you can use these parameters:
#define DEFAULT_Kp 22.05
#define DEFAULT_Ki 2.59
#define DEFAULT_Kd 46.96
What quality does it offer?
The v4 pellet extruder can offer the same print quality as if it were a filament spool. However, there are factors to consider:
- In a filament spool the volume of plastic flow is directly related to the motor steps.
- With this extruder, you should keep in mind that the homogeneity of the material must also be respected, in other words, provided that the quality and size of the pellet, or grain, is constant at the entrance, it will also be at the exit, so the quality will not be affected, and the prints will remain as if a filament spool had been used.
- v4 Pellet Extruder has not been created to replace the filament, but to open new doors for the use of materials and new possibilities limited by the use of the filament.
Can I use traces of prints as raw material?
You can, but remember that the material you use must be homogeneous, so you must first pass the materials through a crusher. In addition you must make a correct separation of the types of plastic not to mix them.
Where do I put the raw material (Pellet)?
The manufacturer Moher has hung the design of a Hopper suitable for the pellet extruder v4 on thingiverse. You can place the Pellet in this hopper and fit it to the extruder.
What does the v4 Pellet Extruder include?
The v4 Pellet Extruder or pellet extruder includes:
2 fans (flow and layer)
Screws needed
1x Thermistor
1x Heater cartridge
1x thermal compund soft pack
1x Pellet bag
1x v4 Pellet Extruder
