Fun To Do Castable Blend Red Resin has been specifically created to cast bronze, copper, tin or iron parts using a standard casting process.
It is the ideal resin for casting artwork, toy designs, machinery parts.
Once fully cured, the resin has a shore hardness of 73D.
Instructions
To optimise the casting process for lost wax dental castings with Fun To Do’s Castable Blend resin:
- Add investment in investment ring and wait 20 to 30 minutes until the investment ring is hardened.
- Preheat furnace to 800ºC – 850ºC.
- Place the cylinder in the preheating oven.
- Depending on the number of pieces and the coating, set the oven to 900ºC – 940ºC and keep it for about 50 minutes.
- Sometimes it is advisable, if there is a large volume of resin, to wax a slurry (apply a thin layer of wax on the outside of the parts) so that the wax absorbs the expansion of the resin and prevents the investment
- from cracking.
- Investment (Speed)
Instructions for optimising the casting process for other (non-dental) lost wax castings with Fun To Do’s Castable Blend resin:
- Preheat the furnace to 850 degrees Celsius.
- 30 minutes after mixing the material to be cast (investment), place the mould directly into the hot furnace.
- Maintain at 850 degrees Celsius for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Then lower to 485 degrees Celsius as fast as the oven allows.
- Keep at 485 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes and strain.
Characteristics
The resin is composed of:
- Photo initiator
- Monomer
- Photo inhibitor
The photo initiator, when exposed to UV light, causes the monomer to cure.
The photo inhibitor prevents the UV light from curing excessively.
The perfect match between the UV dwell time and the percentage of photo initiator and the percentage of photo inhibitor makes it possible to work with the desired layer height.
Fun To Do resin cures in 2 to 4 seconds with a layer height of 75 microns (0.075mm), if a DLP projector between 2500 and 3000 lumens is used.
However, curing times may vary depending on the printing configuration (layer height, resin colour, distance between projector and resin…).
Storage Recommendations
Keep in a cool and dry place. Shelf life is approximately 1 year, if stored under optimal conditions. The recommended storage temperature is between 10ºC and 25ºC.
Caution: Excessive heat will prematurely polymerise the resin.
Resin left over from one impression can be used in future impressions.
Recommendations Once the impression has been made
- Give the piece a bath in isopropyl alcohol (approximately 2-4 minutes) and remove it to remove resin residues.
- Clean any isopropyl alcohol residue from the piece after the bath, you can use a hairdryer or compressed air, but do not use hot air.
- Leave in the sun for 20 to 40 minutes, or expose to ultraviolet light for 1 to 8 minutes (depending on the piece).
