PROTOPASTA’s HTPLA METALLIC BRASS is a dense material that prints as easily as a standard PLA, resulting in brass-look prints that can be brushed, sanded or polished after 3D printing to achieve stunning results.
HTPLA COMPOSITE BRASS is a perfect material for jewellery, costumes, accessories, figurines, crafts, robots, etc.
This brass material allows different finishes to be obtained depending on the type of machining used or how many passes the piece is given.
Description
HTPLA COMPOSITE BRASS filament offers different finishes depending on the machining or treatment applied:
- Heat treatment to survive in harsher environments such as the sun or a hot polishing wheel.
- Wire brush to expose the metal to future oxidation or a bright satin finish.
- Drum with steel grits for a darker, but smooth and shiny look.
- Paint the part (black for example) to fill in the gaps with a contrasting colour.
- Polish with a rotary tool, cotton polish and polishing compound for a shiny, mirror finish on high spots (darkens low spots).
- Polish with paper for a clean, smooth, shiny finish with less darkening.
- Patinate (oxidise) naturally exposed metal or accelerate with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar/hydrogen peroxide saturated with salt (Place in a sealed plastic bag to retain moisture, heat further accelerates the reaction).
- 100% machinable.
Characteristics
HTPLA COMPOSITE BRASS requires hardened steel nozzles or similar, as it produces excessive wear like other fibre filaments in brass nozzles.
